Abdominal massage and Myofascial Release – a new way to feel good and combat stress and anxiety

Our new massage therapist Josey Crane specialises in Myofascial Release (MFR) and Abdominal Massage (AM). Both treatments are gentle yet work on a deep level and produce long lasting results.

What is Myofascial Release (MFR)? MFR deals with the fascial system - the fascia is our outer layering and covers every tissue, bone, nerve, muscle, ligament and tendon of the body. Think of it as giant body hugging tee-shirt. When working well the fascial layers glide and move freely but through poor posture, stress (emotional and physical) and injury the fascial layers can become hardened and rigid causing pain, stiffness and reduced range of motion.
What is a session like? An MFR session always begins with a postural assessment. The therapist takes into account not only what they notice during a postural assessment but also what they feel. The experienced therapist can actually feel the facial restrictions, where they go to and subsequently feel the release of those restrictions during the session.
How long is a session? 90 mins is recommended for your first session with 30-60 min follow-up sessions.
Who is MFR for? Sports people, performers, chronic pain sufferers and anyone looking to improve movement, joint function and their overall health and wellbeing.

What is Abdominal Massage (AM)? Abdominal Massage is an ancient form of massage which helps to gently restore the body back to its natural balance by bringing the organs within the abdominal and pelvic areas back into alignment - releasing facial and muscular restrictions, strengthening tendons and ligaments and boosting blood, nerve and lymph flow.
What is a session like? An assessment is carried out to check for restrictions around the abdominal cavity, the position of the belly button (a good indicator of which way the abdominal fibres are being pulled) and any areas of discomfort/pain. You remain fully clothed during a session with only your tummy area and lower back exposed. It's advisable to wear loose fitting clothing to a session.
How long is a session? A full treatment of the abdominal area and lower back (sacral) is 90 mins with 30-60 min follow-up sessions.
Who is Abdominal Massage for? Everyone. This incredible ancient massage is known to help with depression, anxiety, stress, painful/irregular periods, lower back pain, bloating and constipation among many other problems.

When to avoid
Generally a colon and sacral massage can be performed at any time, however a womb massage has some restrictions:
Just before or during a period
If you have a coil fitted
If you are in your first trimester of pregnancy
Any recent abdominal surgery
If you have an infection or high temperature

MFR Therapy and Abdominal Massage - like many alternative therapies - promote the philosophy that the mind and body work together to maintain optimum health.
